AKTUNCHEN
Aktun Chen, is situated close to Akumal in the middle of the Riviera Maya, near Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Visit a spectacular cave that is more than 5 million years old with a great variety of stalactites, stalagmites, and columns. This cave is more than 640 yards long, has magnificent vaults, discreet illumination, and fixed ways for a comfortable walk, without risking the natural state of the grotto, inside the cave, you will also be able to appreciate a beautiful crystal clear water cenote of 36 feet depth. I will explain how caverns are formed, as well as the use and relation that Mayan civilization had with caves. After leaving the caves you’ll have a walk-through Aktunchen’s incredible natural zoo, a unique project in Quintana Roo´s area due to its wide variety of local species. At this 6 acres area of wildlife zoo, you will find: whitetail deer, wild Collared Peccary, parrots, toucans, oco pheasants, agoutis, sereques, coati mundi, spider monkeys, night mico as well as an attractive serpentarium of the regions serpents. This project is focused on the reproduction and repopulation of the local species.

Have a real adventure at Rancho Santa Cruz, situated in the jungle close to Akumal in the middle of the Riviera Maya, near Cancun and Playa del Carmen. where you’ll have a short jungle walk of 15 minutes, with some explanations about the flora of the jungle, to the cave entrance. Wearing your bathing suit you'll descend 10 feet into the Underworld of the Mayan Gods, a cave system. With a hard hat on your head and a waterproof flashlight in your hand, you begin an underground trek. Halfway through your journey into the infra-world under the jungle, you enter an underground swimming area where you can have a swim or swing from a Tarzan rope! Swimming and walking you continue your adventurous 45-minute walk, through tunnels and underground rivers up to your belly to exit the infra-world into a large depression.
After snorkeling, you can take a shower at the facilities before having lunch at a beautiful beach restaurant close to the lagoon, with a beautiful view over the turquoise Caribbean Sea. You can choose between a typical Mexican lunch like tacos, fish filet with the fresh catch of the day, pasta, or vegetarian lunch. After lunch, you’ll drive back to the hotel.
