pm 03Puerto Morlelos in the Riviera Maya is a quiet little town half way between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Situated at the Caribbean beach and surrounded by swamp, has not a lot of tourism.  The swamp around Puerto Morelos is full of saltwater crocodiles and since these prehistoric animals are a protected species, they are not allowed to dry the swamp out and build hotels, like in Cancun and Playa del Carmen, therefore there are only some hotels on

Punta Laguna is part of a 5,000 hectar, government-protected nature reserve called Ma'ax Yetel Kooh, which is Mayan for "House of the spider monkey and the puma" In addition to the unique subspecies of spider monkey that inhabits the area, the preserve is also home to howler monkeys, pumas, coatis, jaguars and a variety of birds.

sian kaan 036You want to see a tropical Paradise? You are adventures and you seek the close contact to nature? Then you have to go to the Biosphere of Sian Ka’an, situated 40 miles south of the Riviera Maya and aprox. 120 miles south of Cancun.  There are 859 different types of plants and also 326 types of bird species, most of them endangered.  Sian Ka’an is a bird sanctuary and the 2nd most important place of reproduction for endangered birds like the American stork, the long-haired egret and the peregrine falcon.  There are lots of birds, dolphins, turtles, manta rays, barracudas and tropical fish to see.

tulum RuinsTulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Mayans, serving as a major trade hub for Coba, it was at its height between the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico. Go snorkeling in the lagoon of Yalkoo, a former natural Mayan harbor and caved in cave system. Tulum was a walled city, protected on one side by steep cliffs facing the sea and on the other by a wall of about 12 feet in height. Tulum served as a trading port. The ancient Maya name was ZAMA=City of Dawn or City of the Morning Star. The buildings that are visible on the site date from the Post-Classic period, around 1200 to 1500 A.D., and the city of Tulum was functioning at the time of the arrival of the Spaniards.

UXUXUBI (Maya for: the song of the bird’s)

uxuxubi 06Uxuxubi is a real Mayan Village, 10 miles deep in the jungle, west of Akumal in the middle of the Riviera Maya, near Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Learn how the Mayans are living in the jungle, the same way their ancestors lived there for hundred’s of years. Have a walk through the Village to the big Lagoon, where crocodiles are living and even seabirds are nesting in the middle of the jungle. Climb up a 30 foot high wooden tower to see how the Mayan village is wide spreading over the jungle. If you like the adventure, you can have a zip line ride over the big Lagoon.

santa cruz 24Rancho Santa Cruz is situated close to Akumal in the middle of the Riviera Maya, near Cancun and Playa del Carmen and it is a real Mexican rancho in the middle of the jungle. Beneath the rancho is an extended 5 million year old cave system.

Have a real adventure in Xibalba (Maya for: the underworld of the Mayan gods) at Rancho Santa Cruz you’ll have a short jungle walk of 15 minutes, with some explanations about the flora of the jungle.

yalku 57Go snorkeling at Yalkoo Lagoon a former natural Mayan harbor, in Akumal in the middle of the Riviera Maya, near Cancun and Playa del Carmen. The lagoon is a caved in cave system, full of fish. You snorkel through canyons while observing different type of fish, like sergeant mayor, parrot fish, neon fish, angel fish and the occasional barracuda or turtle.
